i have always been fascinated with the idea of happiness. what is it? and why does it seem to be so elusive. i have read many books on the subject and thought about it intensely, but the most interesting information came from my years treating patients. one of the most common things i saw in the clinic was depression and anxiety. i saw it more than anything else and it seemed to increase over the last few years. so i began to ask this question to my patients – what would make you happy? and the answer was surprising. 9 times out of 10 they said they didn’t know.

this talk is very interesting as it discusses the science behind happiness. i am pretty sure i posted it ages ago, but last night i watched part of a series in which this psychologist, dan gilbert, talks about the study of happiness and why it probably isn’t what you think.

enjoy. :)
